Grand corruption is flourishing despite numerous laws which would curb it. The 187 countries that are party to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (“UNCAC”) each have laws criminalizing corrupt conduct. Yet kleptocrats enjoy impunity because they control the administration of justice in the countries that they rule. To help address this problem Integrity Initiatives International (III) has put forward a proposal to work toward the establishment of an International Anti-Corruption Court (IACC) which could be a vital institutional enhancement to our current global governance architecture. The proposal is generating strong support including from former President of Colombia and Nobel Laureate Juan Manuel Santos, former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay and former Foreign Minister of Canada Lloyd Axworthy, among many others. It is an initiative strongly endorsed and supported by the Global Governance Forum. This online discussion on the need for an IACC was hosted by the Global Governance Forum with guest speakers Judge Mark Wolf and Judge Richard Goldstone.
