Ever since 1945, global governance has been challenged by the advent of nuclear weaponry, their use, deployment, and arms race. Various approaches have been adopted to reduce the dangers posed by this weaponry, and a fundamental split exists between the search for risk reduction by way of arms control and global stability favored by mainstream peace groups and demands for prohibitions on the use, threat, development, deployment and possession of the weaponry by peace movements.
