A Second UN Charter: Updating and Upgrading Existing Institutions
Event Start Date September 19, 2024 11:00 am
The UN Charter describes a number of institutions which have served the well-being of humanity for generations. Yet, these institutions were based on a set of norms and assumptions that have since evolved, and, as with any system, change is required. This session will look at the institutions created in the Charter and how they can be modernized to better meet the needs of humanity today. Speakers will share their thoughts on the treatment of existing Institutions in the new Charter and what benefits would accrue from the various modifications. This session will look at the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, the Secretariat, the International Court of Justice and the collective security mechanisms.
