Mariana Alem Zabalaga
Mariana Alem Zabalaga studied Biology at the Universidad Mayor de San Simón and completed her master’s studies in Agroecological Knowledge Management and Social Change at Wageningen University in the Netherlands. Her experience focuses on rural development and participatory action research using mixed methods, promoting processes to strengthen local food systems. Other areas of expertise include ethnography, participatory facilitation and teaching.
She currently coordinates the project “Participatory Action to Expand the Consumption of Food with Lower Pesticide Residues in the Kanata Region” at the Institute for Rural Development of South America (IPDRS). She has published on the supply and demand of organic food in Cochabamba and on pesticides in local and international journals. She produces bio-inputs, has three children, 25 hens and an agroforestry plot in Apote, Cochabamba.
