The author, Professor Rafie Mavaddat, has carried out research in photonics, laser tenuous plasma interaction and gravitational wave detection.  He has travelled extensively around the world, holding academic or visiting academic positions at the University of Wales, UK, where he obtained his PhD, Shiraz University, Iran, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the University of Pennsylvania, USA, Dangshin University, South Korea, and the University of Western Australia. He was Visiting Professor with the Photonics Group, Cambridge University UK on several occasions. He has been both Head of Department and Academic Dean of Engineering. He is author of a textbook Network Scattering Parameters published by World Scientific, and an online book on science and philosophy Evolutionary Pathways in an Unfolding Universe.
