Sofia D’Alte Montens is a Portuguese lawyer and former diplomat. From 2013 to 2019, she served as Counsellor for Trade, Economy and Finance at the Embassy of Portugal in Washington, D.C., where she advanced Portugal’s interests across several sectors, including promoting Portugal as a gateway for US LNG into Europe, and contributed to EU–US trade negotiations.

From 2011 to 2013, in the context of Portugal’s international financial assistance programme, she served as a Member of the Cabinet of the Minister of State and Finance. There, she led the reform of the legal framework for state-owned enterprises, took part in the privatisation of major utility companies, and represented Portugal at the EU’s Financial Services Committee.

Earlier in her career, Sofia was a Clerk to the Supreme Administrative Court of Portugal (2006–2011) and an Assistant Lecturer at the Lisbon School of Law (2001–2011), teaching civil and contractual law. Her master’s thesis examined state-owned enterprises and public sector governance, a subject on which she has also published several articles.

Sofia is a licensed lawyer and holds a master’s in public law from the University of Lisbon, where she graduated with highest honours. She is a Fellow of the Global Governance Forum, where she has chaired and facilitated the Forum’s Expert Group Meetings since April 2025. She lives in Florence, Italy.
