| Ambassador Steinberg is Expert Advisor to the Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development. He also serves as a senior adviser to the Center for Strategic and International Studies and is on the boards and advisory councils for the Auschwitz Institute for Peace and Reconciliation, International Peace Institute, and other non-profits. He has taught poverty eradication at Dartmouth College as a visiting fellow. Ambassador Steinberg has more than 40 years of experience in government and NGOs, focusing on global development, peace processes, gender and atrocity prevention. Mr. Steinberg served as Deputy Administrator at the U.S. Agency for International Development during the Obama administration, where he focused on the Middle East and Africa. He was a member of the Deputies Committee at the National Security Council and a founder, along with Ambassador Samantha Power, of the White House Atrocity Prevention Board. He has held senior positions with the U.S. government, including as director of the U.S. State Department’s Joint Policy Council, NSC senior director for African Affairs and U.S. Ambassador to Angola. He was also deputy president at the International Crisis Group and a member of the U.N. Civil Society Advisory Group for Women, Peace and Security. He also served as an expert adviser for the 2008 Genocide Prevention Task Force. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the President’s Meritorious Service Award. He has published more than 100 articles on foreign policy and economic development, atrocity prevention, gender equality and women’s empowerment and post-conflict reconstruction. |
